# Design Philosophy

The overall design revolves around the theme of “New”, symbolizing a brand-new beginning.
The visual focus is on the letter N, depicted through a hand-drawn topographic map of ‘Gilgal’, illustrating Joshua’s journey leading the Israelites across the Jordan River into ‘Gilgal’.
It expresses that God is always doing new things, both in the past and now!

In the Bible, ‘Gilgal’ holds a special place, symbolizing a fresh start and a determination not to repeat past mistakes.

Gilgal’s Historical Background and Meaning

The name Gilgal in Hebrew implies “circle” and “rolling” or “removal.”

• Entering the Promised Land: In Joshua chapter 4, Gilgal was the first camp of the Israelites under Joshua’s leadership after crossing the Jordan River. They set up twelve stones there to commemorate God’s assistance in entering the Promised Land.
• Shame Removed: Gilgal symbolizes the place of removing shame. In Joshua 5:9, the Lord said to Joshua, “Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you.”
• A New Beginning: Gilgal was where the Israelites renewed their covenant with God. Joshua performed circumcisions here, symbolizing the end of the old life and the beginning of a new one.
• Growth and Maturity: After entering Gilgal, the manna ceased, symbolizing a transition from depending directly on God for manna to starting agriculture, and entering a new spiritual phase.

Even though Gilgal symbolizes a beautiful new beginning, it also carries an important reminder:

Due to the people’s rebellion, the Israelites desired a king, Saul was anointed king by Samuel at Gilgal.
Over time, especially after Saul’s failure, the symbolic meaning of Gilgal began to change.
In other books of the Bible, especially the prophetic books,
Gilgal gradually became a symbol of rebellion against God’s will (Israel’s rebellion and idolatry).
This contrasted sharply with its earlier positive symbolism, indicating the Israelite’s deviation from God’s path and their growing weakness.

In Hebrew, “Gilgal” also means “circle,” reminding us not to go in circles.
